Sony's warranty explained, its gaps, and how SureBright Anywhere helps bridge them.
Sony's warranty ranges from about 90 days on some accessories to two years on certain TVs. When that coverage ends, SureBright extended protection helps keep unexpected breakdowns from becoming unexpected costs.
IMEI or serial number is on a label on the back or underside of the unit, and in the TV's Settings > System menu.
PlayStation
On the back/underside of the console; also in the Settings menu. For controllers, it's inside the battery area.
Cameras & lenses
On the bottom plate of the body or the lens barrel, and on the original box.

Bought a Sony TV from BJ’s with a 3-year manufacturer warranty. When the backlight failed, Sony denied the claim, blaming dust or condensation as an “environmental factor” rather than a manufacturing defect. The TV was kept in a clean, smoke-free, climate-controlled home, leaving the owner frustrated with Sony’s warranty decision.
Priya N.
Knocked my soundbar off the shelf - the kind of accident Sony's warranty doesn't cover.
Ethan B.
Spilled a drink on my headphones. Replaced without much fuss.

Still got questions? We have answers!
How long is the Sony warranty?
It depends on the product. Roughly 90 days on some accessories, one year on PlayStation and most electronics, and up to two years on certain TVs. Check the documentation that came with your product for the exact term.
How do I check my Sony warranty status or find my serial number?
You'll need the model and serial number. On TVs and audio, it's on a label on the back or underside and in Settings > System; on a PlayStation, it's on the back/underside and in the Settings menu; on cameras, it's on the bottom plate or lens barrel, and on the original box.
Does the Sony warranty cover my PS5 controller or HDMI port?
Manufacturing defects are covered during the warranty period. Drops, spills, and power surges are not covered, which is where SureBright Anywhere accidental damage or extended protection can help.
Does Sony's warranty transfer if I sell it or buy the product used?
The manufacturer warranty generally runs from the original date of purchase and stays with the product, but you'll need the original proof of purchase to make a claim. Second-hand buyers often can't produce it.
Is a Sony product covered if I bought it from a third-party or marketplace seller?
Sony's warranty applies to products bought from authorized sellers. Purchases from unauthorized sellers are excluded, which is one of the more common reasons a claim is refused. A SureBright Anywhere plan works wherever you bought it in the US.
Do I need to register my Sony product for the warranty to apply?
Registration isn't required for the warranty to be valid, but it makes a claim faster because your model, serial and purchase date are already on file.
Does the warranty cover liquid damage to Sony headphones?
No. Liquid damage is excluded from the standard manufacturer warranty on every Sony product, including headphones. But it is covered under the SureBright Accidental Protection Plan.
What proof of purchase do I need, and what if I lost the receipt?
A dated sales receipt or order confirmation showing the retailer and product. If it's lost, try your order history with the retailer - most can re-issue one.
How long does a Sony repair take, and is it mail-in or carry-in?
Sony Electronics offers both carry-in at an authorized service centre and mail-in; PlayStation repairs are mail-in with a prepaid label. Turnaround varies by product and parts availability.
What can I do if my Sony warranty claim is denied?
Ask for the reason in writing. Denials usually come down to accidental damage, an unauthorized seller, an expired term or missing proof of purchase - none of which a manufacturer warranty covers. An extended plan covers most of those cases.
What are my options once Sony's warranty ends?
You can pay for repairs out of pocket, or add a SureBright Anywhere plan that continues coverage after the manufacturer term and adds accidental, liquid and surge protection.
